MOXI offers opportunities for middle and high school students grades 7-12, which give teens and pre-teens opportunities to engage in hands-on experiences that inspire creativity and curiosity while building leadership skills.
These opportunities are integral to our STEAM programs, allowing students to help to create interactive and educational experiences for younger peers. Working alongside MOXI’s team to bring science, creativity, and problem-solving to life offers teen and pre-teen volunteers gain valuable skills and earn volunteer hours. Whether assisting with camps, supporting workshops, or contributing to special projects, they have the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a lasting impact.

MOXI Camp Jr CIT Program
Our MOXI Camp Junior Counselor-In-Training (Jr. CIT) Program, is a brand-new opportunity that aims to develop middle schoolers as emerging leaders and role models by demonstrating and highlighting core values and character in MOXI Camps. This new opportunity strengthens the camper experience, increases youth engagement, and expands camp leadership opportunities.
Schedule
- Adults register Jr. CITs for one week of camp at a time
- Camp is 9 AM – 3 PM with Extended Day available
Requirements
- Jr. CIT must be entering 7th or 8th grade in Fall 2026
- Must be successfully registered via moxi.org
- Ideally can attend CIT / Jr. CIT training on May 16, 2026 from 9 AM – 12 PM
- Must participate in camp activities and share an interest in helping campers.
Role
- Act as a role model to campers and demonstrate kindness, curiosity, creativity, embracing challenges, and playfulness.
- Help campers feel welcomed, included, and work alongside them with projects
- Assist staff and CITs in a daily recognition of camp values
- Gain leadership skills through helping run some activities during breaks, such as leading games during lunch and/or snack
- Demonstrate an enthusiasm for the program and activities

For Any High Schoolers
MOXI Camp CIT Program
Our MOXI Camp Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program is a revamp of our high school volunteer program, giving our high school volunteers a little more structure and leadership responsibility. CITs take on an important role of fostering a welcoming environment while supporting staff in executing curriculum, leading some games + stations, being a role model to campers and Jr. CITs, and taking initiative to help the week run smoothly and help keep it fun!
Schedule
- Monday – Friday*
- 7 hr shifts between 8 AM – 5 PM, typically 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM.
- 2, 10-minute breaks and one 30-min lunch break, daily (still in sight of the camp)
- About 35 community service hours per week
- *some weeks are only 4 days and therefore only Mon-Thurs
- Specifics of which weeks you are selected to volunteer will be confirmed by May, but requests and availability will be collected with applications in March.
Requirements
- All CITs must be entering grades 9-12 in Fall 2026
- Must apply through our CIT Application by April 10th
- If advanced to the next round, they must complete a phone interview
- After our CITs are selected, they must attend our CIT / Jr. CIT Training from 9 AM – 4 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
- CITs are expected to attend the sessions they commit to.
- Must act as a role model to campers, Jr. CITs, and share an interest in helping others.
- Commitment to 2+ weeks is preferred.
Role
- Must act as a role model to campers and Jr. CITs, through following rules/instructions and by demonstrating kindness, playfulness, curiosity, creativity, and embracing challenges.
- Help campers feel welcomed and included and help them work on their projects by supporting their efforts and talking through problem points
- Assist in daily recognition of camp values
- Assist staff if setting up, tearing down, and occasionally facilitating programming.
- Opportunities to facilitate a station occasionally come up and CITs are also put in charge of some snack/lunch games, some story times, and more.
- Gain leadership skills through running some parts of activities, being a mentor and role model to the Jr. CITs and campers, and working on leadership goals with staff
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for the program and activities
- Help keep campers safe both in and outside of the classroom. This includes on our walks to lunch.

For Any High Schoolers
MOXI Maker Corps
MOXI Maker Corps nurtures budding artists, tinkerers, makers, and educators through volunteering in our Innovation Workshop. As they engage and foster curiosity among young guests during volunteer shifts, they will simultaneously develop the skills it takes to facilitate learning. In addition to volunteer hour credits, this program offers high school students a chance to have “open workshop” time on Tuesday mornings at MOXI, where they can come and practice their skills in art, making, and tinkering. This program is open to current high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.
Schedule
- Program Orientation, Training, and Maker Tool Boot Camp:
- Sunday, June 14th 1 PM – 4:30 PM (mandatory).
- Tuesday, June 16th 9 PM – 12:30 PM (mandatory).
- Individually scheduled 3-hour shifts throughout the summer for a total of 39 hours.
Current High School Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior
- Interest in art, making, education, engineering, or child studies with a desire to share that interest with others.
- Desire to work with children
- Able to attend orientation and training on June 14th & 16th
- Able to volunteer for (13) 3-hour shifts throughout the summer break. 10:30am – 1:30pm or 1:30pm – 4:30pm. Must be available for 40 hours over the course of the summer.
Role
- MOXI Maker Corps participants work alongside MOXI Education staff in the Innovation Workshop (IWS). Maker Corps participants assist in the operation of this makerspace by welcoming guests, learning the activities and tools of the workshop, and facilitating those activities with children and parents.
Why Apply
- This is a fun, creative role that provides space for personal growth as well as community service hours. MOXI Maker Corps participants will gain firsthand training on using workshop tools along with maker and art techniques. As they engage and foster curiosity among young guests, they will simultaneously develop the skills it takes to facilitate learning. As part of the program, the students will also have a special art workshop given by a local maker who can give a business perspective on being a working artist.
