Sensory-Friendly MOXI

Introducing the Quiet Cave

Now open – a calming space designed for sensory-sensitive guests and anyone seeking a moment of calm during their visit. The space features soft lighting, an inclusive reading library, minimal noise, and tactile sensory experiences. Whether you need a break from the buzz or a quiet spot to reset, Quiet Cave can be accessed on the second floor.

We also offer sensory-friendly backpacks as an option for children and adults with autism, sensory processing disorders, and/or other cognitive disabilities and their families to enjoy at MOXI.

Things to know:

  • The Quiet Cave is now available on MOXI’s second floor near the elevator. This space is designed to offer a respite from the loud energy of the museum for anyone who may need a sensory reset.
  • Select exhibits generate a lot of noise + light including the Sound Machine, Reactable, Spinetic Energy Sculpture, Ring Launcher and From Here to There.
  • Hand dryers are located in all restrooms.
  • Printed sensory-friendly maps are available.

As always, sensory backpack kits with resources like noise-reducing headphones or earmuffs, fidget spinners, and more will be available for checkout from the front desk. Additionally, paid Personal Care Assistants accompanying a guest with a disability will be admitted for free as always. Read more about MOXI’s accessibility resources here.
