MOXI temporarily closed on Friday, March 13 in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 for the health and safety of MOXI guests, staff + our broader community. As of Wednesday, July 1, we must postpone our previously planned reopening. We were so excited to have the chance to welcome you back to MOXI and remain grateful for your support during this challenging and uncertain time. However, a new public health order has been issued and it requires indoor museums in select areas of the state, including Santa Barbara County, to close, effective immediately, and for a minimum of three weeks.

In light of this announcement, MOXI will be postponing our reopening until the Governor deems that it is once again safe for museums to reopen. This decision is not a result of any confirmed case of the coronavirus among our staff or volunteers. In fact, we have been working hard to meet or exceed the state, county and CDC requirements for reopening. So, rest assured, we will be here for you when we are able.

If you had reserved tickets for our reopening, they will be cancelled, and an email will be sent at a later date with information about our new reopening plans and ticketing procedures.

We will continue to provide updates here, via email, and on our social channels – where we will also continue sharing creative inspiration for STEAM activities you can safely do at home through our MOXI@Home initiative.

We’re excited to reopen our doors to you – we’ll just have to wait a bit longer to ensure it is safe for you, our staff, and our greater community.

To our valued Members and Innovator Circle Members, we so appreciate those of you who have renewed your Membership during this closure in a show of support of MOXI as a valued community resource. In light of this extended period of closure, all currently active Memberships will be extended by two months and we can’t wait until we can safely reopen our doors to you.

In the meantime, we will be bringing some of the MOXI experience to you at home via Facebook, Instagram and our website via a new MOXI@Home initiative. Throughout the closure, we will be sharing ideas for STEAM activities and making projects inspired by our exhibits and Innovation Workshop experiences. We hope trying some of these activities at home brings your family a touch of the MOXI spirit of playful exploration and discovery. Please share your MOXI@Home projects with us using #moxiathome or by tagging us @moxisb, we would love to see your creativity!

MOXI is made possible through the generosity of our community primarily through admission fees, membership dues, facility rentals, as well as through grants and donations. While we are taking every measure to be financially responsible during this uncertain time, we are already feeling the impact of the novel coronavirus outbreak and know that with each day we are closed, the effect will be even greater.

May 15, 2020 – Update regarding Summer Camps.

MOXI has made the decision to cancel all Summer Camps for 2020 due to the conditions created by COVID-19. We have emailed all families who were registered with information on options for their registration fees. If you have not received an email or have any additional questions, please contact sales@moxi.org or call 805.770.5012 and a member of our Education Team will get back to you as soon as possible.
