High School Volunteering.

MOXI offers exciting volunteer opportunities for high school students ages 13 and up, providing a chance to engage in hands-on experiences that inspire creativity and curiosity. As a volunteer, you’ll be an integral part of our STEAM programs, helping to create interactive and educational experiences for younger students. You’ll work alongside our team to bring science, creativity, and problem-solving to life, all while gaining valuable skills and earning volunteer hours. Whether assisting with camps, supporting workshops, or contributing to special projects, you’ll have the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a lasting impact.

MOXI Camp Volunteer 

MOXI Camps are playful, hands-on STEAM programs that nurture creativity, curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving for campers grades K-6. With fun themes from Top Secret Spy to Swashbuckling Science, the play and learning go hand in hand. Our volunteers are a critical piece of this. 

Schedule

  • Mon-Fri* 
  • 7-hour shifts between 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Typically, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM. 
  • 2 breaks + lunch break daily. 
  • About 35 community service hours per week. 

*some weeks are only 4 days due to holidays, and therefore only run Monday – Thursday.

Requirements

  • Attend every day of the camp week (typically Mon-Fri).
  • Those who commit to 2+ weeks are prioritized. 
  • Participate in the camp volunteer training on May 31. 
  • Be passionate about working with youth.
  • Share an interest in creative problem-solving and collaboration. 

Role

Our volunteers take on an important role of ensuring campers feel welcomed, safe, supported, and have fun throughout the week while also supporting camp staff with miscellaneous tasks. 

 

  • Serve as a role model and companion to campers.
  • Assist staff in programming setup. 
  • Help campers with their work + projects.
  • Help campers stay safe.

MOXI MakerCorps

MOXI MakerCorps nurtures budding artists, tinkerers, makers, and educators through weekly, hands-on workshops with our Maker Education team, open workshop time in the Innovation Workshop to build and create and volunteer shifts in the maker space working with staff and guests alike. In addition to volunteer hour credits, this program offers high school students a chance to display their work in a temporary exhibit hosted at MOXI during Fall 2025. This program is open to current high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.  

Schedule

  • Program Orientation and Training: Tuesday, June 17, 9:30-12:30 (mandatory).
  • Weekly guided workshops and open work time: Tuesdays, June 24- August 16, 9:30-12:30.
  • Weekly 4-hour volunteer shift in the Innovation Workshop to be scheduled individually. 

Requirements

  • Current High School Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior. 
  • Interest in art, making, science, engineering, or technology with a desire to share that interest with others.
  • Able to attend orientation on June 17, 9:30-12:30. 
  • Able to attend at least 7 weekly workshops on Tuesday mornings between June 17 and August 12.
  • Able to volunteer for (8) 4-hour shifts throughout the summer break .

Role

MOXI MakerCorps participants work alongside MOXI Education staff in the Innovation Workshop (IWS). MakerCorps participants assist in the operation of this makerspace by welcoming guests, monitoring capacity of the space, managing supplies, and sharing techniques and encouragement with guests 

Why Apply

This is a fun, creative role that provides space for personal growth as well community service hours.  MOXI MakerCorps participants participate in weekly maker education workshops hosted by MOXI staff. These workshops share techniques, tools, and materials that MakerCorps participants may not be familiar with. MakerCorps participants will also get non-public work time in the IWS to work on their personal projects. At the conclusion of the summer, these projects will be put on display in a temporary exhibit at MOXI.
