International Dot Day

Circle the date! International Dot Day has arrived.

International Dot Day celebrates creativity, courage, and collaboration, inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot. Since 2009, when teacher Terry Shay introduced the story to his class, millions worldwide have joined in. The tale of a teacher encouraging a student  to “make her mark” has grown into a global movement, reminding people of all ages to embrace their creativity and share it with the world.

At MOXI, we’re bringing Dot Day to life with hands-on activities:

  • Dot day scavenger hunt: find all 100 orange dots hidden around MOXI that spell out a secret message, then claim your MOXI prize
  • Giant collaborative “community dot”: Add your own design or an encouraging message to our oversized dot, with support from the Kids Museum Advisory Committee
  • Hole punch art: Create colorful designs using paper and contact paper
  • Innovation Workshop (IWS) activities:
    • Dot maker self portraits
    • “Dot Data” community bar graph
    • Mini dot doodles
    • Magnify dots up close with microscopes and magnifying glasses
