While Calder Kamin’s planned exhibition at MOXI had to be postponed due to the pandemic and the museum’s temporary closure, we wanted to share her work and techniques with you. Kamin is an artist, educator, and environmental advocate whose creative reuse projects transform trash into stunning pieces of art! Collect materials like plastic lids, bags, or used takeout containers and turn them into something new! Inspired by her creative reuse methods, you can create and design solutions out of the simplest materials that would otherwise go to waste. Below is a link to some of Kamin’s techniques she shared as an artist in residence at The DoSeum to repurpose plastic trash in your home, including transforming Easter eggs into flowers and making plarn (plastic yarn) out of plastic bags. Practice her techniques and then brainstorm your own ways to transform plastic waste into art.
