Portrait of Things

August – November 2023

Students at the Multimedia Arts and Design Academy (MAD) at Santa Barbara High School were challenged to make a portrait using non-human elements. Some of the materials used are granite, wood, metals, and galaxies.

The Multimedia Arts and Design Academy (MAD) at Santa Barbara High School is a program for ninth-twelfth graders that offers courses in filmmaking, photography, graphic design, and web design. Their curriculum is a balanced focus between technology and art bent on creating the next generation of digital storytellers.

MAD is a completely free public school program.

What Do Colors Sound Like?

What Do Colors Sound Like?

Westmont grad, Tucker Howard, combines color, sound, and science in a unique art experience. He uses a custom algorithm to turn colors into sound, then uses vibration to shape that sound into visual patterns. Inspired by his ADHD and sensory experiences, the project includes a nine-track album, with each track based on a different color. Available this summer on MOXI’s 2nd floor.
